Who We Are

The Story Train is a literacy development program which began in 1993 by Sharen Robertson.   The program initially was simply storytelling at libraries and elementary schools.  Gradually, it became a story writing program for children.  Then, story writing in classrooms evolved into a non-profit entity which included a television show on local cable TV.  The show consisted of showcasing students, their stories and illustrations, to their communities.  This was done as a field trip to the local cable studio in whatever town The Story Train was working in.  The program was well-received and nominated twice as "Best Educational Programming For Children" in the Massachusetts Cable Commission contest.

In September 2000 Ms. Robertson (also known as Mrs. Catch-a-story) opened The Story Train Literacy Center in Middleboro.  In September 2009 Ms. Robertson opened The Story Train Education Center in Marion.
